I’ve been using Fulcrum wheels now since 2005, so 18 years and remarkably never broken a ‘spoke’ until a few weeks ago!

I’d say that’s a pretty good record to say the least!

Spoke Replacement

To-date, I’ve used a variety of wheels from the portfolio, ranging from Racing 3’s, Racing 1’s and the Racing Zero Nite’s, the later using the Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation treatment to the aluminium (6082, T6 Pre-Aged) braking surface.

So far, they have all been clincher’s with caliper braking systems, as I’ve not yet moved over to disc! Maybe sometime in the future perhaps, who knows!

In amongst many features, I find the MoMag™ system very interesting and hugely successful, to quote…

How does it work

The nipples, once inserted inside the rim via the valve hole, are guided to the point of connection with the spoke by means of the magnet.
This simple but ingenious system makes it possible to have wheels without holes on the upper bridge, but with spokes tensioned by traditional nipples”

The advantages

No holes on the rim means that the rim is uniform at every point, free from stress points or zones of weakness and, for the clincher profiles no rim tape is required, to the benefit of weight reduction.
The advantages are immediately clear: greater rim lifetime, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility to give the spokes greater tension, and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, mean greater reactivity and acceleration.
